Message from the Executive Director, Aziz Abdur-Ra’oof, ’87

The fall sports season is finally upon us. We are excited about all the possibilities the new fall schedules will bring to the Terps athletic teams. Congratulations to Field Hockey and Women’s Soccer for getting off to an undefeated start to their season. Most practices are in full swing and the athletes are all working extremely hard. We wish them all a great start to their season.

Congratulations to Stacy Eichwald King ‘94 (Gymnastics), who is the winner of two home basketball and football tickets – thank you again to all who participated in the membership renewal raffle. We had more than 600 members renew their membership during that time period, thank you to you all.

Please join us on Oct. 1, 2010, when we induct our 2010 Hall of Fame Class at 5:45 at the Marriott Inn and Conference Center.

Tickets are $75.00 per person or $700 for a table of 10 and patrons are asked to RSVP by Sep. 20, 2010. If you are unable to attend, please consider purchasing and donating tickets or a table.

Men’s Soccer celebrates 1,000th game

Maryland Soccer is celebrating another milestone this season, as the Terps will play the 1,000th game in program history. All former players and coaches are invited to return to Ludwig Field to celebrate with the current team and Head Coach Sasho Cirovski! The 1,000th game will take place on Tuesday, September 21 against George Mason; game time is set for 7:30 PM. Prior to the game there will be an on-field presentation with all former players and coaches thanking them for making Maryland Soccer the nationally recognized program it is today.

All former players and their families and friends are welcome to attend the game at a discounted rate of $4 per ticket for everyone in their group. You can RSVP for this game by contacting Kyle Geddes at 301.314.7072 or via e-mail at kgeddes@umd.edu.

Six Terrapin Greats to be Inducted into Athletics Hall of Fame in October

Six Terrapin greats will be inducted into the University of Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, October 1 at the Marriott Inn and Conference Center. Tickets for the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame can be ordered by contacting the M Club Foundation by phone at 301.314.2619 or by email at mclub@umd.edu. Tickets are $75 per person or $700 for a table of 10 and patrons are asked to RSVP by September 20.

Maryland’s Hall of Fame Class of 2010 includes Leo Cullen ’98 (men’s soccer), Christine De- Bow Mitchell ’97 (field hockey), Laura Harmon ’95 (women’s lacrosse/field hockey), Marchelle Payne-Gassaway ’94 (women’s track and field), Eric Wilson ’85 (football), Peter Worstell ’81 (men’s lacrosse).

Along with our Hall of Fame inductees, the M Club will also induct honorary members: Susan Bayly, General Counsel of the Office of Legal Affairs; Rick Jaklitsch, past president of the Terrapin Club; and Joel “Superfan” Ryerson, lifetime Terps supporter. Jack Flynn will be honored with this year’s Distinguished Citizen award, and Dr. C.D Mote, Jr. will receive a special award.
