We held our seventh Annual Letterwinners Day last weekend
(Homecoming) and had well over 500 people attend the pre-game
tailgate/tent party. We combined this event with the recognition
ceremony for the ACC 50th Anniversary Team members. The
top 50 athletes from each team (from all schools) are
being recognized this year by the league in conjunction
with the 50th Anniversary year of the ACC (founded in
1953). The University of Maryland has 150 former athletes
that were selected by the ACC for this honor (almost 60
attended). The 50th Anniversary team members were recognized
individually on the field at halftime of the game as were
all the former athletes in attendance. More than 400 (not
a US Park Service estimate) people came down onto the
field and I'm sure we had many hundreds of other letter
winners that did not make the trip down the steps. It
was a great day for seeing old (and not so old) teammates
and friends and the opportunity for networking with one
another.
