Annual University of Maryland
Athletic Hall Of Fame
The Athletic Hall of Fame was founded in 1982 by the
M Club Foundation as a joint project with the Department
of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Hall of Fame pays tribute
and extends recognition to those Terrapin athletes, coaches
and administrators who through the years have contributed
to the honor and national recognition of the University
in athletics, and who have continued to demonstrate, in
their daily lives, the values learned in Intercollegiate
Athletics. Visitors to the main lobby of the Comcast Ceneter
can view plaques honoring the Universitys greatest
achievers in athletics.
Among the qualifications for man and women nominees are:
being out of school at least ten years, earning a varsity
letter or being an Athletic Department Staff member for
at least fifteen years, a record of outstanding athletic
achievements, and being of good character and reputation.
The Hall of Fame selection committee, which consists
of former coaches, athletes and alumni who have a strong
identification and understanding of Terrapin athletics,
meets annually to elect inductees. Anyone is permitted
to nominate candidates for the Hall of Fame. Each nomination
must have a detailed biographical sketch on forms provided
by the M Club Foundation, 2707 Terrapin Trail, Comcast
Center, College Park, MD 20742.
